Why this site was created.
I created this site in 2002 out of the belief that elections administrators deserved a single site that listed all the companies and products available to them. My focus naturally was on tabulation and voter registration systems. My idea was to have product reviews, along with literature and contact information that could be useful to anyone researching new technology. In light of HAVA, the need was real and pressing.
Now, however, most states and counties have new voting equipment, and statewide systems are for the most part up and running. Therefore, a new emphasis emerges; providing information on new and emerging technology that will take us beyond the status quo. I have done this with the Tech Corner page along with pages that deal with electronic pollbooks and identity matching for statewide VRs.
I am often asked why I don't have more information on the on going problems with DREs (such as VVPATs, etc.). My answer there is that this subject is covered very well by any number of other sites. However, the vast majority of those sites, while claiming to be non-partisan, are clearly steeped in a partisan stance. Many of those sites, while appearing to be legitimate, are not dedicated to true election reform, and reveal a clear lack of understanding of what election administrators do.
My site is totally non-partisan, and while I do have some critical comments and articles for some vendors, I don't make this this mainstay of my site. Vendors are encouraged to contact me if they wish to have a page for their company or provide new product information.
